The MA*GA Museum offers an opportunity to support young people through the Universal Civil Service.

You can apply for one of the open positions in which the selected Volunteer Operators will be involved in specialized training activities and in practical activities by supporting the museum's scientific staff in the various fields.
Within the program “Capaci di futuro, cultura e educazione come ingredienti di resilienza per le comunità di Varese, Como e Brescia”, you can choose between two projects: “Noi siamo cultura. Rafforzare e aumentare la produzione culturale del territorio” and “Archivi futuri. Tutela, valorizzazione e promozione dei beni materiali e immateriali degli archivi d’artista "

 

PROJECT: Noi siamo cultura. Rafforzare e aumentare la produzione culturale del territorio
Promozione del patrimonio museale e culturale immateriale della provincia di Varese
Available positions: 6

Educational Department: 2 volunteer
The Civil servants:

  • participate in research groups for the realization of educational activities in relation to the permanent collections and temporary exhibitions
  • collaborate in the planning of educational initiatives, innovative projects and materials for prepare the spaces and the equipment
  • collaborate in the definition of methods and in the preparation of tools for the documentation, verification and evaluation of the educational activities

Management/secretary: 1 volunteer
The Civil servant:

  • supports the preparation of the reporting documentation for tenders
  • maintains relationships with upkeep companies
  • verify the correct compilation of documents and their archiving
  • update supplier/customer lists and ensure data is always up-to-date

Communication: 1 volunteer
The Civil servant:

  • implement and update the contents of the institutional site of the Museum in Italian and English
  • maintains relations with the communication and information managers of the museum, other museums
  • carries out press reviews and collaborates in the drafting of information materials to support communication and information activities and contributes to the planning of their dissemination
  • collaborate with the social media manager in the creation of content for the Museum's institutional channels

Exhibitions: 1 volunteer
The Civil servant:

  • collaborates in all organizational aspects of the creation of exhibitions such as: identification of works, transport, insurance, setting up, communication, economic plan, etc.
  • collaborates in the construction procedure of the inaugural stages by sending invitations, managing the mailing list, etc.
  • collaborates in all phases of the organization and communication of cultural events

Safety, maintenance and set-up: 1 volunteer
The Civil servant:

  • hosts visitors, provides essential information on the museum's itineraries, works, services and activities
  • collaborates in the surveillance of the exhibition hall and the museum heritage
  • collaborates to guarantee the correct functioning of the information and protection structures of the works
  • collaborates in the creation of the displays and communication devices in the museum, in the laboratories and in the temporary exhibitions and events of the institution

 

PROJECT: Archivi futuri. Tutela, valorizzazione e promozione dei beni materiali e immateriali degli archivi d’artista
Available positions: 6

Specialist library: 2 volunteers
Library researcher

The Civil servants:

  • supports the enhancement activities of the collections according to national and regional standards
  • develops targeted bibliographies based on the material present in the specialist library catalogue
  • participate in collections enhancement programs
  • collaborates in the valorisation of the specialist library catalog through cultural activities, networking with similar institutions
    Access requirements:
  • bachelor's or Master's Degree in Humanities
  • knowledge of the English language at least at level B2
  • (optional) knowledge of a third language at level B1

Cataloguer
The Civil servant:

  • collaborate in the conservation activities of the collections according to national and regional standards
  • update the specialist library catalogue
  • collaborates in the cataloging according to the national SBN standards of the new documents that become part of the specialist library collection
  • collaborates in verifying the signatures, locations and state of conservation of the documents in the specialist library
    Access requirements:
  • bachelor's or Master's Degree in Humanities
  • knowledge of the English language at least at level B2
  • (optional) knowledge of a third language at level B1

Premio Nazionale Arti Visive Città di Gallarate: 2 volunteers
The Civil servants:

  • collaborate in the management of the archive in the cataloging and digitization of existing documents
  • catalog and takes care of the inventory of the works donated to the Museum through the appropriate computer system and updates the existing files
  • promote and disseminates the contents of the Award in the media
  • collaborate in the management of the planning and executive phases of the new edition of the award
    Access requirements:
  • bachelor's or master's degree in literature/history/art and contemporary art with an interest in research, cataloguing, archiving
  • basic knowledge of image processing programs (e.g. Photoshop or similar)
  • non-mandatory preferential requirement: previous work and/or training experience in the duties indicated above

Conservation: 2 volunteers
The Civil servants:

  • catalog and inventory the museum heritage through the appropriate computer system and update existing files
  • support the organization and management of the photographic and digitization campaign of the museum heritage
  • carry out research, acquisition and organization of the documentary material present in the museum's paper and digital archive for in-depth analysis of the catalog cards
  • support the drafting of condition reports and the management and care of the museum collection.
    Access requirements:
  • three-year degree or master's degree in historical/artistic and contemporary art with an interest in research, cataloguing, archiving
  • basic knowledge of image processing programs (e.g. Photoshop or similar)
  • non-mandatory preferential requirement: previous work and/or training experience in the duties indicated above

 

Useful information:

  • the project provides a weekly engagement of 25 hours for 12 months with a monthly contribution of 444.30 euros.
  • it’s necessary to be available on weekends and in the evening when some of the cultural activities organized by the institution take place.
