Performance by Masako Matsushita

21st Giornata del Contemporaneo AMACI
SATURDAY, OCTOBER 4, 2025 – 4:00 PM
Free admission with mandatory reservation at this link

The Sala Arazzi Ottavio Missoni hosts Un/Dress Moving Painting, the choreography by Masako Matsushita, an Italian-Japanese artist active on the international scene. The performance is presented on the occasion of the Giornata del Contemporaneo, promoted by AMACI – Association of Italian Contemporary Art Museums, during the closing weekend of the exhibition Atto Unico. Premio Gallarate 1950–2025.

The initiative also marks the collaboration between MA*GA and the MILANoLTRE festival which, for its 39th edition, focuses on the body as a space of relation and transformation, through the curatorial focus Bodies in Between, a program that in 2025 explores the relationship between dance and fashion.
It is precisely within this framework that a new dialogue has taken shape with the Missoni Archive: a unique opportunity to open the creative process to the historical, visual, and cultural material of the brand, and to recall that focus on the body and performance that has always been part of Missoni’s vision.
In Un/Dress Moving Painting, Missoni’s fabric is not mere decoration: it is fabric as archive, as an active space of memory transferred onto the stage and into the artist’s contemporary reflection.

Masako Matsushita is an Italian-Japanese artist who investigates movement through choreography, performative installations, and participatory projects. Her practice explores the relationship between body, space, and time, activating sensory perceptions linked to memory, tradition, and identity. She has presented her work in residencies and festivals in Europe and abroad, including Romaeuropa, Quadriennale d’Arte, Drodesera, Les Plateaux, Bratislava in Movement, and Residency Unlimited NYC. Co-founder of the 4bid Gallery in Amsterdam, she complements her artistic practice with curatorial and educational activities. She works in dialogue with communities and cultural institutions, developing creative processes that intertwine performance, documentation, and exhibition.
