Closing event of the exhibition Atto Unico. Premio Gallarate 1950-2025
Andrea Peña’s practice is recognized for its intersection of choreography and design, where body, materiality, and technology converge to construct immersive universes. Rooted in her background in industrial design and informed by her Colombian-Muisca indigenous ancestry, her work engages the body as both material and agent. Through choreographic systems that embrace hybridity, she interrogates the tensions between the organic and the constructed, the individual and the collective, generating spaces that resist resolution and instead open onto states of becoming.
In this performance, Peña explores the interaction of the body and materiality, approaching objects as active material agents. Drawing from Muisca indigenous understandings in which humans and objects are equally living beings, the work unfolds as a contemporary archaeology of body and object. It opens a terrain where human and non-human bodies encounter one another, entangle, and generate new sites of relation.
Wearing a motocross outfit—an emblem of speed, protection, and excess—the artist pushes its capacities with materiality, testing its limits through friction and reciprocity. In these encounters, body and object slip into zones where distinctions blur, allowing the possibility of becoming one to emerge.
