MY MIAMINA

Artistic redesign of the fabric of the iconic Miamina chair (Saporiti Italia)

The MA*GA Museum, in collaboration with Saporiti Italia S.p.A. and the Brera Academy of Fine Arts, are promoting the MY MIAMINA project, dedicated to the reworking of the fabric of the iconic Miamina chair.

The project is aimed at students attending the first and second level academic diploma courses of the Visual Arts School of the historic Milanese Academy.
The project aims to enhance the design quality that distinguishes Italian production linked to the world of art and design through the relationship between art, design and education, respectively represented by MA*GA, Saporiti Italia and Accademia di Brera.
The students will be involved in an educational path with moments of introduction to the project, a visit to the collections of the MA*GA Museum and the Saporiti Italia archive to come up with their own personal reinterpretation of the seat fabric, a key formal and structural element of Miamina.

First presented in the Saporiti Italia showroom in Miami, the city from which it takes its name, the iconic Miamina received an honourable mention at the Compasso d'Oro Award in 1985.
The first edition of the chair was made with a series of fabrics, specially created for this object by Ottavio and Rosita Missoni, amplifying the relationship between art, architecture and design through the use of colour. The selection and evaluation of the projects will be carried out by a commission appointed by the project promoters and will take into account their originality, technical and poetic quality, and adherence to the ultimate aim of enhancing the fabric of the seat as a key formal and structural element of the Miamina.
At the end of the project there will be a selection and evaluation phase for the most interesting projects in terms of originality, degree of innovation and search for new design solutions linked to the identity of the chair. To the first three entries Saporiti Italia will award a one thousand euro scholarship and MA*GA will donate one year of AMICI membership of MA*GA Young. In addition to the three prize-winners, a further selection of ten works will be used by Saporiti Italia to create unique pieces of Miamina, to which a presentation and temporary exhibition will be dedicated in the Museum's spaces in Gallarate next autumn.
